Televised Ministry Sensationalism Part II

Here is another example of this tactic used by these men.  This time around it is James Oldfield.

  1. Does anyone else think it is dishonest that they don’t inform the person that they are taping in these situations?

One clarification – I don’t believe that Norm Fields engages in this sort of televised ministry sensationalism. At least I’ve never seen him do it. This seems to be a Johnny Robertson and James Oldfield technique.

  2. He reminds me of sheep in wolves clothing. He first comes across as a fellow sheep and then he waits for the oppputunity to attack. Then he goes in for the kill. Do these men really think they are bringing glory to our Lord and Savior?

  3. Dear Lah,
Do you just assume that you and all these not in the Bible religions bring glory to Jesus?
Muslims say the way they know that Jesus is not from God is “all the division that has resulted.”
    Please Read
    Joh 17:20 ¶ Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

“Believe on me through their word”
None of the people in this forum believe the words of the apostles!
    Eph 4:4 There is ONE BODY, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
Eph 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to THE CHRUCH,
23 WHICH IS HIS BODY, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

    One church for all people!
Muslims are right on this one… if all these religions are from Jesus after he said he only wanted ONE, then he is not true to His own word.

That is scary! The Muslims have a reason to disbelieve!
Because they know that God is not the author of confusion and all these religions that only agree on this forum are confusing everyone.
Can you all agree on Sunday morning?

  4. I would ask you the same question Jo. Could all those claiming to be part of the CofC agree on a Sunday morning? I can say from my observations the answer is no because several respectful people who have posted on this blog have voiced their issues with the Robertson/Fields groups. Which further validates the opinion that Robertson and friend are not promoting unity among the body of Christ but further dissensions.

  5. “Does anyone else think it is dishonest that they don’t inform the person that they are taping in these situations?

So holding the camera out in plain view would not clue you in on the fact you’re being taped?

“Here’s your sign” as the saying goes by Foxworthy

  6. Watch that clip again, “faithful”… the pastor did not realize he was being taped. Is the cameraman vertically challenged, but sometimes held the camera high above his head while standing on his tippy-toes?

It’s pretty stunning that you would defend this sort of underhanded behavior. It is not honest, ethical, or Christlike behavior, no matter which way you try and cut it to make yourself (or Johnny) feel justified.

By the way, if you are going to try and be clever by quoting a pop culture reference, at least make sure you’ve got it right first. “Here’s Your Sign” wasn’t Jeff Foxworthy – it was Bill Engvall. I can understand your confusion, as their humor is similar, and they’ve toured together and appeared on TV together. But let’s give credit where credit is due.

    That’s why they call me,
    Mr. Answer

  7. He knew he was being taped. There two cameras in plain view, one on a tripod looking up for effect.
He gave me that as a present in my opinion. He is UPH not Church of God TN. Jackie is a false teach to him
why don’t you children get yur facts right? Matt 11:16

  8. Johnny, you are not fooling anyone, even though you think you might be.

Why don’t you actually get on board with the message of Christ, and put aside your agendas?!

  9. I meant you are not fooling anyone in many areas-not just this one-but I see you are still attached to your agenda. I guess until that changes you will not even understand what I am talking about-which is only to your detriment.

  10. From Johnny: He knew he was being taped. There two cameras in plain view, one on a tripod looking up for effect.
He gave me that as a present in my opinion. He is UPH not Church of God TN. Jackie is a false teach to him
why don’t you children get yur facts right? Matt 11:16

From Randy: I think you are missing the point Johnny. Maybe one day you will understand where others are coming from. Johnny, look up false teacher in the bible and tell us that the false teachers in the bible were men wanting to serve God…Jackie has a clear desire to serve God via Jesus Christ – the false teachers stated in the bible were not men wanting to know and be saved by Jesus Christ…Peter described them clearly as did Jude.

  11. is a man a liar because he lies or lies because
hes a liar? a man said he wasnt coming back in here
because ” its too dark ”
someone must have turned the lights on.
    just asking.

  12. Just to point something out…

I was replying to faithful’s comment on this page – which is the video of James Oldfield and partner secretly taping a gentleman after a service. Johnny, would you like to get James to come on and tell me that the man here knew he was being taped? If so, you guys need to hire some new cameramen, because this is some pretty shoddy camera work. “one on a tripod for effect”? What does that mean, exactly? What “effect” are you going for? The up-nose angle?

As to the Jackie Poe tape, I would be very interested to see that there was another camera, and that Pastor Poe knew he was being taped. It certainly doesn’t appear from that tape that he knew that he was – especially at the end when he asks, “Is that thing on?”

Look, Johnny. It’s great that you came back, but why don’t we engage in some discussion? There have been many valid criticisms raised here about the doctrines you teach and the methods you employ. Why don’t we talk about them?

  13. I happened to overhear a conversation by a cult member who claimed to be the cameraman in this video. He said that the video camera was displayed openly and somehow attached at his hip. This is why the angle is so weird. He rationalised there was no deception involved because it was always visible and had a blinking red light on it. His conversation was focused on the supposed evils of the minister they were doing the ambush video of. He also made a big deal about being physically assaulted after it was discovered he was videotaping the conversation. Common in cults is the inability to recognise how abnormal as well as morally questionable their actions are.
