Watched a bit of the Robertson show tonight. He spent quite a bit of time justifying his tactics of getting at his enemies (the preachers from other denominations) by ambushing with cameras, etc. He justified this behavior by talking about the tactics employed by the children of Israel when they were spying out the land.
This made me go “hmmm…”
Why? Well, when we’ve discussed using musical instruments in worship on this blog, the hyperconservatives have come back repeatedly saying that there is no New Testament authority authorizing the use of musical instruments in worship, and that is why the “true church” would never use musical instruments.
My question – where is the New Testament authority for hyperconservative church of Christ people to use these tactics of ambushes, secret recording, etc? Can anyone tell me a passage of New Testament scripture that has the apostles engaging in this sort of behavior?
It seems that this is a pretty big double standard. Further, it demonstrates how the hyperconservatives will violate their own principals if it helps them to justify themselves in their own minds.
Am I misreading this situation? Anyone else care to comment?

If JR said that Paul was separating himself from the Jewish religion, and that’s the hypercon model, what are they doing using Joshua and Caleb as role models for behavior?
As I said before, seems to be a double standard.
I recall reading where God will justify himself in court, I believe JR is hurting his case in a huge way by making God out to be a God that is hypocritical!
This step back into the old testament to justify his wicked schemes and justify his misleading statements is the religion version of a political spin machine!

Yes Lee Paul and the council were trying to keep the peace with the Jews, they were not willing to live in peace though and thus the saga plays out in acts 21.
Flexibility what a concept that was the point Josh was driving home then JR countered with that lame gotta quote verse or something along those lines and then took the first chance he got to cut him lose.

The attitude that motivates kindness toward others is the same attitude that motivated God’s kindness to us. John after watching some of the old shows where you list Religious Review in them, you almost make me think I have the gift of prophecy, since those shows used the title of Religious Review, and now you are using the name Religious Review to hide your true affiliation and of course using your son as bait case someone actually sees through your wicked schemes and is offended then you can cry foul over your poor little son being assaulted.
So the bottom line is you are using your son in the hopes he gets assaulted as you put it so you can use it as fodder against those who might be tempted to lose their cool, you are in fact the Hamas of Christendom. Using your child as a screen in the hopes of generating bad press is much like Hamas who use their civilians to hide their weapons close by in the hopes that Israel misses and kills them, then the press can be called in to show the evil of Israel while crying foul, and the going out and purposely using civilians as targets.
Please protect your child and use men, at least your 21 year old son to do this work so that if you do manage to provoke someone into doing something stupid a minor will not be in harms way. Does your wife agree to allowing him to be placed in that situation? Surely you would not try to do this inside a Muslim meeting place like you do in christian ones?

Let me ask a simple question, how many times has your son falsely posing as a Religious Review reporter ever recorded people laying in wait for you John? ZERO perhaps is the answer now isn’t it? 😉
So then the answer is no it is not justification, however it is a sign of your bitter root that drives you to twist scripture so you can carry out your vendetta against those you see as false teachers and the cause of your father’s leaving, have you forgiven your father yet? If not what does the Bible say about unforgiveness in Matthew?
And when can we expect you to report on all the Church of Christ bodies who do not agree with your extreme stances? Are you going to allow the world to see that on your review? After all if you are not in fellowship with them they must be false teachers also, right? Or could it be that the doctrine of unity has something to hide in it’s little dark closet!

Now shall we go down the list, for example JR’s Baptist behaving badly he is run off from a Church and announces that he is recording the encounter, this begs the question did they not know they were being recorded? I believe that they are hiding the fact that they are out recording people based on the poor camera angles they show were the camera is not even showing the face many times during the “interview”
So who was James really preaching to, Johnny, or Micah, or perhaps Mark of the CoC?
Sad but funny to watch teaching that includes the above when I know they are attempting to hid things from the public!
