While Nathan and Corey debate I would like to offer my services to debate Johnny…..one church of Christ preacher to another……on the following issues:
Who is the enemy? Who is a false teacher?Or, perhaps on ministry approach.
Really, Johnny…who did Jesus call “hypocrites”? Those who were sincerely striving for God, but were mistaken in some areas, or those who were insincerely religious, who didn’t care about God’s will?
Doesn’t Jude 22-23 call for different approaches to different people? And it seems like (maybe I’m wrong) all you want to do is “hate even the garment stained by the flesh,” while neglecting “have mercy on those who doubt,” and “save others by snatching them out of the fire.”
Johnny, if you’d care to answer this challenge, you can contact Clint here at our blog, or on Randy’s blog, or go directly to the horses mouth at Clint’s blog:
Nathan,
Thanks for calling me a horse… 🙂
Hey – I could have gone for the other end! 😉
Johnnys gone to get a hair cut right now – he might reply when he returns. I hope he takes this offer, you think he will Joey?
Johnny,
I am serious about the debate option…but I also want you to know that I don’t live in your area…I don’t watch your show…I have only seen snippets of some of your encounters…I am primarily responding to the way you come across in your comments on this blog. I honestly care about the Truth and how it is preached…not just what is preached (although that is very important, too). Jesus did not use the same approach with everyone, and neither should we. He did not sharply rebuke or confront every person in error. He did not regularly overturn tables and call people sons of the devil. Those were approaches reserved for a specific class of people and administered at appropriate times. He was most often characterized by compassion for the lost, not adversarialism. I am only advocating that we become more like Christ in our ministries. I am only advocating this:
Titus 2:7-8 (ESV)
7 Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity,
8 and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.
and this:
2 Timothy 4:2 (ESV)
2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
(emphasis mine)
Well, Nathan….now I know how you really feel about me…the only problem with the other end is that horses don’t talk with their hooves. And I’m sure “hooves” is what you had in mind when you said “the other end.”

Ha! Clint, of course “hooves” is what I meant. I didn’t know horses talked at all, but hey!
Speaking of horses talking…
I wonder when JR will accept or deny your challenge to a debate. Given his track record recently, I am expecting him to deny, but who knows? We know he’ll debate people from other faith traditions, but what about from his own? Of course, he’s liable just to label you a liberal, Clint, and say he doesn’t debate cofC liberals.
Anyway, we’re all waiting patiently while his acolyte Joey stirs the pot. Randy – is Joey one of JR’s “1st year students”?
So, when do you and Corey plan to debate? I don’t think Johnny will live by his words “always be ready to give an answer”. So, maybe you and Corey should go ahead and agree upon a topic.
I really was hoping to Johnny and Clint debate the issues that Clint put forth, but I doubt Johnny will do that, seeing it would reveal to all “WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY” 🙂
Clint said
one church of Christ preacher to another
no gospel preacher ever calls himself “church of Christ preacher”
I don’t know who clint is but he is not one of us
Ne 13:24 And their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews’ language, but according to the language of each people.
for a long time false religions have tried to make us pout like them selves
denominate by names
Baptist preacher , methodist preacher etc
then they would try and call us “church of Christ preacher”
we never accept it and never would call ourselves such
Clint is either a liberal or a AKA for some false teacher
I have read through this blog and it appears to
me
that this is a place where all the folks that fear us come to vent
You know better than to come out and be seen dont ya
Chris taught you that well
How about it Lee
Are you ashamed of yourself or can you not affirm your position in the grown up world
Notice how men and women of character handle their disagreements
Obama Clinton John M
Any of you care to trod where Chris went
I didnt think so
Nathan am I banned
Johnny,
If you feel that we are so inconsequential, then why do you bother spending so much time here?

No, I just changed the format a bit for the time being. All comments are being moderated – not just yours. I’ll probably open it back up again later on to being more free-flowing. But for now, I’m moderating.
It’s not an uncommon practice in the world of blogging.
john,
are you the rep for the grown up world?
let me see……..a man whom i know to lie.
nah. silly rabbit tricks are for kids

Johnny, I see you still are running from the debate with Clint – all we want is your words and his forever for all to see, so why not do as you say and give an answer if any man ask – Clint ask, so answer.

– I talked to Johnny and right now he is in the middle of getting a tent meeting set up, so maybe this debate will occur after that – or maybe not. Clint can you please address Johnnys statement above so he knows you are legit and a cofC preacher too.
I do think Johnny is right about one thing – often, this blog seems to be a place to vent rather than “answer the church of Christ”. Okay, since that may be the case, it would be good for Jackie Johnny to take Clint’s offer, so we could see at least the ultra-Cons view vs. the non-ultra cons view. Or, the debate between Corey and Nathan would also be “answering the church of Christ” . Nathan, can you update us on when this debate between you and Corey might occur?
re: Corey & Nathan’s debate… we’ve been discussing it privately, and it should hopefully happen soon. I’ve been knocked on my rear end with a nasty stomach virus these last couple of days, so I’ve not been too interested in pursuing it. Hopefully I’ll be back up to speed and we’ll get it going.
hope ya get better dude !
Sorry all…I wasn’t following this thread and I didn’t know anything was going on here…Nathan, I hope you can pass this on to Johnny if he doesn’t get back here to read it…
Johnny,
It is interesting that you can tell that I am a false teacher just because I said “church of Christ preacher.” And, what is so wrong with being a preacher for the church? Isn’t that what is intended when we put “church” in lower case…not a name but a description? Have you never said “I am the preacher for such and such church of Christ”? This is all just word play, anyway…I was only trying to clarify where I am coming from for you and everyone else who reads (denominational and non).
The point is, Johnny, that you judge me but you don’t even know me, or my positions, or my use of Scripture…except I would think from what I have addressed you with so far you would have an idea of my attitude toward and treatment of Scripture. What happened that you would become so judgmental of your brother in Christ? And if you would respond that you do not know if I am a brother, then why don’t you ask? What would it take for me to be your brother?
Who is a liberal? A false teacher? Anyone who disagrees with you? Can there be no disagreement among brothers? So far the only thing you know for sure we disagree about is ministry methodology. Do you call me a liberal or false teacher for this? And, although I have used Scripture to support my points, you have not responded to those Scriptures, but with labelling.
Top it off with your pronouncement that being called anything but “gospel preacher” is wrong. This term is not even found in Scripture. So, my “church of Christ preacher” is not found in Scripture, and your “gospel preacher” is not found there, either…not literally, anyway. But they are both there in principle. When Paul told Timothy to “preach these things,” who was he supposed to preach to? The church. I feel a little ridiculous having to point this out to you, Johnny.
This all seems so ridiculous…we are stuck on frivolous topics…I am reminded of Titus 3:9 where Paul says to “avoid foolish controversies.” If we are going to discuss, Johnny, let’s not waste our time with name-calling, quarrels over semantics, or any other tool that Satan likes to use to put us against one another.
