Results of the Day of Prayer

Today we spent the day praying for Johnny, Norm, and James. It was a challenge, as I was really trying to pray for their well-being, and not that they would change. At the end of the day, I felt comfortable with that, because I don’t change anyone – only God does.

My biggest concern is that JR and his “friends” have earnest folks who come and listen to them each week at the churches where they teach.  The mental picture I get is people willingly walking into a detention center. Free bonds! Free bonds! Get ’em while they last!

If they want to worship sans musical instruments, that’s their call. If they want to take the Lord’s Supper weekly, they should do so with joy.

But, what gets me is where they take the people the Lord has given them to shepherd (at least from what we can see from the outside) and teaching them that to love their neighbor is to attack their neighbor (i.e., their “ambush videos”); teaching them a doctrine that seems to say that God is this big ticked off God who is wandering the hills and valleys looking for reasons to annihilate us (if you don’t do this, if you don’t do that, you are lost or apostate); etc.

May they (and we) truly understand what Jesus meant when he said, “Ye shall know the TRUTH and the TRUTH shall make you FREE” – John 8:3

How did everyone else’s times of prayer go?

  1. I honestly didn’t spend hours praying for them but when I woke up I said a prayer for our community and that we would reflect love even to the JR crew and even in the midst of debate.

Then later in the evening I prayed for God’s presence in our church and for our pastor as he brought us the evening message and I was hoping that Johnny WOULD make an appearance. And if he had been there, he would have heard a very thought provoking and timely message on unity in the body of believers delivered by our pastor.

As I returned home I actually began praying for Chris upon turning on the JR program and hearing that Chris was outside the studio and began praying for a potential conversation that Christ would be exalted and truth would be spoken.

  2. So Katie you prayed for yourelf but not us. OK . At least you’re honest about your lying about what you said you would do. We really didn’t you would anyway. Ww can hear the hate and selfishness in your post as well as the other’s

  3. faithful and lee, let’s cut out the hate talk. If anyone hates anyone else here, I’d ask you stop posting, and start praying for yourself, as well as those persons who are causing you so much worry.

Matt 5:44 “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”

Luke 6:27 “But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you.”

Notice that Scripture tells us how to respond to hate – not to actually do the hating. We are to hate sin (Hebrews 1:9)- not each other.

    Thanks,
    Mr. Answer

  4. “teaching them that to love their neighbor is to attack their neighbor (i.e., their “ambush videos”)”

I find it very interesteing that “ambush videos” are classified as “attack thy neighbor” yet Chris’ “ambush video” was praised as facing a bully, or lion in his own den etc.
If you condemn us for “ambush videos,” at least have the decency and consistency to condemn one of your own who does it too.

  5. “teaching them a doctrine that seems to say that God is this big ticked off God who is wandering the hills and valleys looking for reasons to annihilate us (if you don’t do this, if you don’t do that, you are lost or apostate); etc.”

What does a person have to do (oops! we can DO anything can we) to be lost?

  6. Hello James,

I’m glad that you’ve decided to grace our pages. I guess Johnny must have given you the thumbs up to come. Should we expect Norm next? We’d be happy to have him, too.

As to the Chris video, are you saying that you recognize that sort of video as being something to be condemned? Does that mean that you aren’t going to use that particular methodology any more? If so, that’s great news.

    You wrote:
“What does a person have to do (oops! we can DO anything can we) to be lost?”

Actually, we don’t have to do anything to be lost. We are already lost. What did Paul quote from the Psalms in Romans 3:10? “There is none righteous, no, not one. There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.”

  7. Chris, give the URL’s out live Sunday of Nathan blog, yours too – this way, we can get more locals on board and other preachers, plus Johnny’s folks and others can see “the other side”

  8. Regarding Chris’ video I am saying YOU must think when we do it, it is wrong so where is your condemnation of Chris?

If we do not have to do anything to be lost and doing something to be saved is “a work” then where does that leave man?

  9. Hello again, James.

You do understand the situation that occurred here, yes?
    1) Johnny stated publicly (on this blog) that he was going to talk about Chris on his broadcast.
    2) Johnny essentially dared Chris more than once to call in to the program.
    3) Chris didn’t attempt at all to hide that he had a camera, and that it was trained on his subject, Mr. J.R.

I have a very simple question for you. In all of the “ambush videos” you folks have filmed, how many times have the subject of your video stated publicly that they plan to talk about one of you that day? For example, in this video:

where you went to Cathedral of His Glory, did you go there because the pastor of that church had stated publicly that he was going to talk about you that day? Second, had he essentially dared you to call in to his church and discuss an issue? Third, did he even know you had a video camera turned on and trained up his nose?

The situations are not as similar as you seem to believe.

  10. I think James makes a valid point. If it’s wrong for them then the rule should apply to all. I have mixed feelings about this…I honestly dont see why Johnny and crew cant go to other churches and film and ask questions and they surely dont mind this being done at thier meeting place – dont believe me Christ, go to Martinsville where they meet Sunday morning and you will be given ample time to ask whatever you please. I do however disagree with the name calling and things ( like cowards, and other names ) but I guess they have that right as well. Lets at least be honest here, most denominational preachers here CAN NOT defend their positions and thats why they dont like Johnny at their meeting places, what else could be the reason? If I am missing this, someone else please tell me…

It leaves man up the creek without a paddle.

That is, if not for the Good News…

“We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1, NKJV).

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

    As the old spiritual says:

“I‘ve a Saviour in the Kingdom
    Ain’t that good news…
I ‘ve a Saviour in the Kingdom
    Ain’t that good news…

I’m going to lay down this world
Going to shoulder up my cross
Goin’ to take it home to Jesus
    Ain’t that good news”

I think it’s a good thing that Johnny or James or whoever are very receptive to having visitors come ans ask questions. But I think you’re off base in saying that the reason the denominational preachers won’t debate or discuss is because they can’t defend their position. Though it could be true of some, such a general statement is false.

The vast majority of pastors in this area who I know and who my father knows have refused to debate Johnny in particular because of his reputation as a vicious debater. And I’m not saying that to be mean but to merely state the opinion of many in the area. No one wants to purposefully place themselves in a potentially negative situation where their point of view may or may not be even given the chance to be heard. Johnny monopolizes his on air time and even cuts of callers in mid-sentences. So there’s no “defend”… it becomes an all out attack session with no room for defense.

Now I realize this is not the way Johnny deals with people when he’s off air and just dealing with solo individuals but unfortunately the greater majority of the viewing audience does not see that side of him and it causes great mistrust among the local pastors.

so I would argue that its not that they can’t defend their positions, it’s that they know they won’t be given the opportunity to do so.

  13. I am back from Cancun (I know you all missed me) ;), and just wanted to say that I prayed several times for JR, James, Norm, “faithful”, and others that the love and grace of God would be poured out on them; and that they would truly come to a knowledge of those beautiful gifts-and that would flow out into their messages into their churches and communities.

I continue to pray this, because I know God is powerful and awesome 🙂

  14. Yes, the day of prayer was a great success as we too were praying for our efforts to spread the glorious gospel (2 Cor 4:4).
    The results?
1.Ergun Caner from Liberty invited Johnny to come up and meet with him
2.The site in Madison where we wanted to set the tent up was secured at the cost of $0.
3.An erring brother returned to the Lord.
4.I have been given the opportunity to study the Bible with a terminally ill woman who is in the Baptist Church
All of this since Sunday’s day of prayer.

I am sure that is not what you all were praying for to happen on our behalf but “this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.(1 John 5:14-15)

Katie, maybe youre right and I should have stated it otherwise. I guess having seen Chip, Gearheart, and others back down, I assumed they did not know their position well enough to defend it, meaning Johnny and crew have the upper hand. Its true what you say about them “No one wants to purposefully place themselves in a potentially negative situation where their point of view may or may not be even given the chance to be heard. Johnny monopolizes his on air time and even cuts of callers in mid-sentences” and after the debate they will run the stuff over and over…I have emailed Johnny about the attidue and things as well, but he laughed it off…so be it then…if he dosnt see himself as wrong, who can change his mind.

  16. James,

Go back and reread over our posts. We weren’t praying against you, or praying that God would cause your work to fall apart. So, if you’ve had some successes, good on ya’ mate.

Just to remind how we specifically were to pray:

    1. For the well-being of your families

    2. For your health

    3. For Godly wisdom as hour attempt to lead the churches where they teach and preach

    4. That Christ would dwell in your (and our) hearts through faith. And that you (and we), “being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that [they] may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:17-19

And I continue to pray that way for you, James.

    Nathan
