Danville Church of Christ

A week or so ago, I visited the Danville Church of Christ website (www.danvillechurchofchrist.net) and left a cordial invitation on their guestbook for their folks to come over here and join us in our discussions. I’d go back every day or so and see if they’d posted the invitation, but they hadn’t. Now, this wasn’t a big deal to me, because they only had four comments up, and the last one was June. So, I just figured that nobody checked the messages over there.

But today, I went, and there was a new message up! A nice greeting from a man from a Church of Christ in Florida dated November 23!

Are we so insidious and dangerous that the folks who peruse the Danville Church of Christ website can’t know about us? Norm, Johnny and James always talk about how they love to discuss and debate, but it appears that only qualifies for situations where they maintain the control. Here at this website, we have open lines 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and they just won’t call!

What are they afraid of?

  1. Nathan, The real truth is that these men may not want nor desire their members to read and study each side. God forbid if their members have freedom to think on their own as this may cause some to leave. As I stated before, we all do not teach as these men, and they know this and do not want their members to know that they could be wrong. We all must understand that not one of us has a perfect understanding of all scriptures, if so, we would not need to study so much and would not have so many sects within the church. We must start being honest with people and stop playing as if we have mastered the bible to the degree we can say we are right, and if you disagree, you are wrong and headed to hell. When one has this kind of spirit, he is full of pride. No man understands it all…

  2. Hi David,

You make a good point. This is part of what caused me to start this blog in the first part – the way that the men who host these three shows seem to think that their interpretation is the ONLY one that is valid. I think their cynicism is what really irks me – that people having differing perspectives is somehow a bad thing. No, what is bad is when people condemn others for having differing perspectives, and don’t even entertain the possibility that their own perspective might be mistaken.

Matthew 5:5 – Blessed are the meek (gentle – NKJV), for they shall inherit the earth.

Galatians 5:22,23 – Meekness is one of the fruits of the Spirit – qualities that we must possess if we are led by the Spirit.

Proverbs 16:18,19 – Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. It is better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly.

It’s my hope that this blog doesn’t succumb to pride. I’ve been trying to maintain an attitude of gentleness. Have I been succeeding? That’s up to the reader to decide.

  3. Nathan, I emailed Johnny and Norm yesterday regarding this blog. Johnny and I had some communication via email this weekend, so I know for a fact they do know about this blog. They should practice what they preach. They are constantly trying to get the “denominational folk” to have dialogue with them-answer their questions, and they go far as calling them cowards and other things live on TV. I will not step down to that level, but I do find it interesting that they are ignoring-not answering-nor having dialogue, all of which they slam on others for doing to them….very interesting.

  4. “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me-.” we are rich people in christ when the god has confess us to his childrens and he will take car us daily, but this willbe many believer in lats second when Jesus will say to many believer, those who has made bad things and has sinned.”I do not konw you.”Is it great calamaty and sorry, but this are truth. Thanks and bles and pray, keijo sweden

  5. Thanks, keijo. Glad to have you visit from Sweden.

And I agree with you, here. In the end, all we can do is trust in His grace (Eph. 2: 5, 8), because our attempts at righteousness will never do the job (Isaiah 64:6).

  6. “The real truth is that these men may not want nor desire their members to read and study each side”

Actually Davis that is far from the truth.,. We have to study many false religions in order to know how to help the folks see the truth.

  7. Mitch/faithful,
How would someone be able to know for certain that your “Church of Christ” is “the truth”, when it is not doing anything different than any other so-called “religion” out there?

What makes your denomination so special?

What are you doing that marks your denomination as something that is not what any other is? Or any other “religion” in this world?

What are “the denominations” missing that your own group possesses?

If you say “the truth” well, what is that, exactly? And how would anyone know what that “truth” is?
